Tricyrtis formosana (toadlily)
Liliaceae
Hardy Perennial
Shade to sun (dependent on water levels)
A lush fleshy rhizomatous hardy perennial, with opposite leaves on one plane and clusters of small cream spotted purple flowers that resemble tiny orchids.
Though a shade loving perennial, it will happily tolerate sun if there is enough moisture. They prefer a humus rich soil, but will tolerate a wide range of soil types, even clay. They form a lovely ground cover before it's late summer to autumn flowering over many weeks.
Cut Flower Notes
This beauty was given to me years ago and is one of my favorite cut flowers. I love it’s exquisitely dainty and airy blooms, that beautifully offset heavier blooms, and never fails to be commented on with its delicate and unique form - and it’s spots! Cut in the cool of the day and hydrate well.
