Sedum spectabile ‘Autumn Joy’
Syn. Hylotelephium spectabile ‘Herbstfreude’
Crassulaceae
Hardy Perennial
Sun to part shade
Ht. up to 60cm
1L recycled plastic pot
An exceptionally hardy and versatile, clumping, succulent herbaceous perennial with blue grey green foliage. It is equally at home in a cottage garden, or more modern structural garden design, and is often used in drought gardens as it is very dry tolerant. Ideally it prefers sun to part shade and well drained soil, though it is really not particular. Beautiful across the seasons, there is a reason this sedum is so very popular. It has dew catching rosette shaped buds at ground level, followed by lush green succulent foliage and flat topped umbels of tiny star shaped pink fading to red blooms, that can also add beautiful structure to a winter garden. Regular division maintains vigour.
Cut Flower Notes
Sedum make beautiful structural, long lasting cut flowers. I like to vary the height of the stems significantly in a bouquet as they can appear visually heavy, but also provide great volume. Can be cut in firm green bud, until blooms fade red.
