Physostegia virginiana ‘Rosea’ (obedient plant)

Lamiaceae

Hardy Perennial

Sun to part shade

Ht.1m

1L recycled plastic pot

Beautiful readily spreading perennial, with lush green foliage.  The tubular flowers, on upright spikes, resemble narrow and tiny snap dragon a lovely  flowers in rose pink/mauve.

Physostegia likes moist free draining soil, though not fussy (it doesn’t seem to mind our clay soils) and sun to part shade.

Cut Flower Notes

Pinch newer plants to encourage multi stemmed growth.  Established clumps need little attention though benefit from some support as they get rather tall.  For the longest vase life, best cut when 30% of flowers are open on the spray.  The seed heads can also be dried.
