Campanula takesimana (Korean bellflower)
Campanulaceae
Hardy Perennial
Part shade
Ht. 80cm
1L recycled plastic pot
A spreading hardy perennial, with heart shaped green leaves that form lush clumps. Give this one room to thrive and it will reward you with a fantastic display of arching stems bearing beautiful bell shaped flowers in a range from pink touched white, to pink with speckled throats (these are seed grown so colour is a sweepstake). Usually flowers from it’s second season, and will get even better in the following years.
Prefers well drained soil and part shade, but is very tolerant - our bed is growing in a shady clay spot and it is prospering.
Cut Flower Notes
Support results in straighter more usable stems. Cut when a few blooms on a stem are open and other blooms are swollen and showing colour, as buds will continue open in the vase. Campanula need to be cut in the coolest parts of the day. I have found they rehydrate better when the freshly cut base of the stem is dipped in boiling water for 20 seconds and well hydrated and conditioned in deep cool water afterward.
