Asteraceae
Hardy Perennial
Sun to part shade
Ht. up to 80cm
1L recycled plastic pot
These are propagations from my preferred cutting selections in the red and pink range, derived originally from the ‘Summer berries’ mix. A vigorous, hardy perennial that forms a spreading clump of finely toothed feathery dark green leaves. Produces flat umbels of tiny daisies like flowers in the summer.
Achillea prefers full sun to part shade and moist well drained soil, though is not fussy and spreads readily. Dividing when dormant every 3 years to multiply and maintain vigour is worthwhile.
Notes on Cutting
Achillea is beautiful in wildflower bouquets. Often given a bad reputation for wilting, the trick with Achillea is to pick in the cool of the day and when all flowers are fully open and pollen is visible. If you cut back hard after the first flower flush and fertilise, you can often get a second flush of flowers.
